Hockey: Govt announces Rs 10 lakh grant for Mohammad Shahid
The Union Sports minister Dr Jitendra
Singh today announced a grant of 10 lakh rupees for ailing Olympic gold
medallist Mohammed Shahid, who is undergoing treatment for serious liver
and kidney ailment at a hospital in Gurgaon.
Dr Singh who paid a visit to the ailing
hockey legend later tweeted that all medical expenses for Shahid would
be reimbursed and 10 lakh rupees from the ministry was sanctioned for
overhead expenses.
Shahid’s medical expenses are being
taken care by his employers Indian Railways. Known for his artistic
stickwork, Shahid was a member of the V Baskaran led Indian team that
won its last gold medal at the 1980 Moscow Olympics.
